Ken Campbell

Ken Campbell is a second-generation painter and has been immersed in the visual arts all of his life. For the first 25 years of his career he was an award winning graphic designer and illustrator working in marketing, interpretation and publishing. Now, as a respected fine artist, his focus is painting the world. He has produced and exhibited his paintings for over 30 years and his work graces private collections in Canada and the USA.

His oil and acrylic canvases reflect his passion for remarkable places and contemplative moments….seascapes, landscapes, figurative, still life and wildlife compositions.

Artist's Statement:
"After more than three decades of creating commercial art as a graphic designer and book illustrator - telling other people's stories - I have begun the journey of a full-time painter, to tell my own."

SHINNY "Shinny" or pond hockey dates back to the very beginning of the sport. Unlike organized hockey, it was always meant to be casual, fun and friendly. Today shinny continues to be a great game for kids of ALL AGES.

At its best when very casual it may include some store-bought gear but encourages the unusual and improvised — like old catalogues for shin pads or making do with figure skates when that's all you have.

Teams, if they exist at all, may include young and old... rank novices and experts alike. The best games are played on a frozen lake, pond or river in the big out doors. Weather conditions play into every shinny game as do errant dogs, inquisitive wildlife and odds & ends of clothing typically piled to mark the goals.

I was a children's book illustrator in an earlier career and still love to paint kids on adventures or just having fun. With the "Shinny" series I am exploring my memories of playing Shinny — on all manner of improvised rinks, all day long, and often into the winter nights. Shinny was something I believed all kids did.
