| ANCHOR WINDLASS OF TOWBOAT 'IVANHOE' 1991 - Paintings don't have to be horizons, nor do they need to be "scenes". Very often something can be found by merely looking down. Out on the deck with nothing to do, this one came up. The butterfly was an afterthought. I put that in back in the studio where I was better able to find reference. However modest or inconsequential the work turns out to be, people have to realize that this painting business is a personal compulsion that beats cards, golf, eating, and especially polishing brass. |
